The Arrival at Shag End – Nova Scotia – Canada

As always, the journey to Halifax by plane was trouble-free. This small provincial airport offers uncomplicated and excellent service and a great overview. And so was the journey to Shag End. We did a little shopping on the way, with supermarkets on the way, and were greeted by the fresh air, birdsong and the sound of the sea as soon as we arrived.

This time we spent a lot of time at Shag End. And we never got bored. Shag End is a paradise for animal and nature lovers. During the many exploratory tours, we encountered a variety of animals. The majestic deer roaming elegantly through the woods were particularly impressive. Numerous bird species such as owls, wild geese and black-headed tits AND even colorful hummingbirds are native to the area and easy to observe.

But the highlight of our trip was the porcupine. These fascinating animals are mainly active at night and have a special way of camouflaging themselves in their environment. We were lucky enough to spot one of these porcupines from our terrace. It sniffed curiously at the ground and didn’t seem to notice us at all. It quickly became a daily routine – “Daily greetings from the porcupine”. With each visit, we learned more about its behavior and habits. It was fascinating to see how it moved and approached us curiously.

Life by the sea

The coast of Nova Scotia is known for its dramatic beauty with cliffs, beaches and picturesque lighthouses. The coastline around Shag End and Blind Bay is also breathtaking.

Surf: The surf on the Atlantic coast can be impressive, especially at places like Peggy’s Cove or Lawrencetown Beach. Here you can experience the power of the sea and maybe even spot some seabirds.

Activities: You can go hiking along the coast, go kayaking or just relax by the sea. The region also offers opportunities for whale watching, where you can observe different species of whales.
